Start with one site, one tightly defined purpose and a small set of tested filters. Before the pilot, document which footage may be processed, who may see cases, how long exports are retained and what success means. Useful measures include time to the relevant lead, false-alert rate, unresolved alerts, time to case approval and the share of exports with complete documentation.
Separate the operator, rule owner, administrator and case reviewer roles. Test poor lighting, occluded objects, incorrect clocks, camera loss, network loss and unauthorised access. Expand only when these cases are understood. A high recognition rate in a demo is not evidence of reliable results at the actual site.
Data, permissions and boundaries
Video can contain people, faces, vehicles, licence plates, movement patterns and sensitive incidents. Before deployment, clarify purpose, legal basis, notices, roles, logging, retention and deletion for the actual site. Face recognition and similar biometric functions are not neutral convenience features. They need a separate legal and organisational assessment and should not be enabled merely because a demo looks convincing.
BriefCam can be deployed on cloud-hosted machines; that does not automatically mean every installation is a fully managed SaaS service. Clarify hosting, data flows, support access, backups, patch ownership, GPU and storage requirements, and deletion of analytics metadata.
